In its latest release, 1Cate, the OpenURL link-server from OCLC Openly Informatics, has added a long list of features and refinements. And that's not even mentioning the relentless expansion and improvement of the linking knowledgebase behind it!
Helping Libraries manage Electronic Resources
The 1Cate administration module has added many features designed to help libraries manage their electronic resources.
Advanced Onix SOH Support
With on-demand ONIX SOH output, 1Cate libraries can export holding for use in other resource management services, such as OCLC's WorldCat eSerials program. Administrators can now export their holdings data in Onix SOH format with the click of a button.
Support for Consortia and Corporate Libraries
Our multiple holdings-list feature allows libraries to transparently share jointly maintained serials lists, resulting in reduced duplication of effort.
Title Overlap Analysis
Use the title overlap tool to find out which titles in that new package
your institution already has. Maybe you don't need to order it after all.
Category Summary Tool
See how many titles you have under each category using our category summary
tool. Maybe you could use a few more biology titles?
More logging tools
COUNTER compliant display of logging results available. Plus many other ways
to view how your users are using (or not using) your resources. Logs can be
downloaded for use in other analysis tools.
Import and Export Records
Export holdings data in multiple formats. Import holdings data in ascii text,
ISO-8859-1, or UTF-8 format for multiple language support. 1Cate will work with
the data you have.
Refining the User Experience
We continually adding ways for 1Cate to help users get the information they need.
Immediate linking
Users want the best fulltext option immediately. 1Cate's intelligent auto-redirect is available so that users can be immediately sent to the best available service, as determined by the library. If you don't have an item in your electronic collection- you can sent the user right to your Catalog or ILL service.
Enhanced support for eBooks
1Cate is no longer just for ejournals. The knowledgebase included with 1Cate includes over 300,000 linking records for ebooks. Enhancements to 1Cate's browsing features enable users to browse publishers, packages, and ebooks. 1Cate has had full ISBN-13 support for over a year. Records for ebooks/proceedings
(or any electronic record!) can now be browsed and searched.
1Cate around the World
1Cate's unparalleled support for all the world's languages now extends to Japanese, Chinese and Arabic, with language specific features such as katakana and bopomofo search, stroke count ordering, and bidirectional text support.
Users can easily switch between languages in seconds. English,
French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic,
German and Bulgarian user interfaces are currently available.
ILL for All
Since we've mentioned ILL, we might mention that we've added a whole bunch of ILL options, including a customizable email request router.
More List Navigation Tweaks
NEW! We've added extended
alphabet browse, so that, for example, when you browse to "A" you then
see choices to browse to "Aa," "Ab," etc., and see how many titles
there are in each of these sub-categories. Also, numeric page
navigation now has "First" and "Last" options, so you can jump to
either end of the results quickly.
1Cate's intelligent Indexed navigation links show the partial text of the first
title in the next page of results. Just hover over the navigation link.
So users can skip those first 10 pages of results and not miss a thing.
